Q. How Abrasive Is Eco-Dent DailyCare Toothpowder?
A. The American Dental Society (ADA) recommends a test called an RDA test to determine relative abrasivity. There is a standardized procedure for running this test and there are only a few labs certified to run the tests. The scale runs from zero on up into the hundreds, although the FDA recommends a “maximum” abrasivity for any toothpaste of 200 and the ADA recommends maximum of 250, although this is considered to be a highly abrasive number. The higher the number, the more abrasive. The test is a measurement of the reduction of dentin from teeth using standardized protocols and measured against a ‘standard abrasive’ set at “100”.

Eco-Dent DailyCare toothpowder has been tested by one of the certified labs who do the standardized test and the result was an extremely low abrasivity index of RDA 26.

Eco-Dent has been tested in the past using other test methods as well which confirm the extremely low abrasivity index, while showing an extraordinary ability to clean teeth and leave them feeling “squeaky clean”. The legendary cleaning power of baking soda and sea salt is one secret of Eco-Dent’s ability to clean without abrading away your delicate tooth enamel! Another secret is the effervescent action that takes place when the toothpowder comes in contact with moisture during the brushing process.

Most major toothpastes have been tested for RDA and either report the number or will provide it if inquiry is made. You will find that Eco-Dent’s 26 RDA rating is at the lower end of the abrasivity spectrum.
